Dr. Ameena Al-Sumaiti received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Communication Track) from the United Arab Emirates University in 2008. She obtained her Master of Applied Science and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Power and Energy) from the University of Waterloo in 2010 and 2015, respectively. She is a recipient of a number of awards including the University of Waterloo Graduate Scholarship Award, UW Faculty of Engineering Graduate Scholarship Award, Provost Doctoral Entrance Award for Women, UW/NSERC Graduate Scholarship Award, Masdar Scholarship Award, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award, United Arab Emirates University Award, UAEU Honor Student Program Award, Creativity Club Award, Al-Maktoum Institute Award, Abu Dhabi Education Council Award and Photography Competition Award.

 

Dr. Al-Sumaiti has served as a reviewer of papers submitted to IET on CEAT and IEEE GCC conferences.

Current research is focused on determining the optimal energy mix (distribution generation and energy storage systems) for remote communities from political, economic and power system planning aspects.  Other research interests include power system risk analysis and reliability, smart grid power system optimization and energy policy and economics.

Previous research included setting strategies to solve frequent power interruptions in developing countries and sizing and allocation of PV panels in distribution systems
