Joon Ho Lee completed his PhD degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University in Indiana, USA, and his MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in Texas, USA.
Prior to his appointment at Khalifa University, he had R&D experience for about 9 years at Samsung Techwin Co. (Currently, Hanwha Techwin Co.) of Aerospace Engine R&D Industry in South Korea, which were in the areas of Liquid Rocket Engine System Integration and Design & Validation for some parts such as Gimbal for Space Launch Vehicle, Gas Turbine Cooling Design and Heat transfer & Secondary flow for Aircraft Jet Engine and Industrial Gas Turbine, and Aerodynamic Design and Validation for Industrial Centrifugal Compressor as well as its Performance test facility build-up.
His research interests are in the field of Systematic and Componential Analysis & Experimentation for both rocket propulsion and air-breathing propulsion. Specific research areas include the R&D studies for low cost, high efficiency and reliable engine components by using 3-D Additive Manufacturing or Carbon-Composite, Liquid/Solid/Hybrid Rocket Engines, and High Speed Vehicle Engines including Supersonic or Hypersonic Propulsion.
