Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering

Dr. Joon Ho Lee completed his Ph.D. degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University in Indiana, USA,
and his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in Texas, USA.

Prior to his appointment at Khalifa University, he had nine years R&D experience at Samsung Techwin Co. (currently, Hanwha Aerospace Co.) of Aerospace Engine R&D Industry in South Korea, which were in the areas of liquid rocket engine system integration and design & validation for some parts such as gimbal for space launch vehicle, gas turbine cooling design and heat transfer & secondary flow for aircraft jet engine and industrial gas turbine, and aerodynamic design and validation for industrial centrifugal compressor, as well as its performance test facility build-up.

His research interests are in the field of systematic and componential analysis & experimentation for both rocket propulsion and air-breathing propulsion.
Specific research areas include the R&D studies for low cost, high efficiency, and reliable engine components by using 3D additive manufacturing or carbon-composite, liquid/solid/hybrid rocket engines, and high-speed vehicle engines including supersonic or hypersonic propulsion.
