Assistant Professor, Department of English

Mary Hatakka has taught English as a foreign or second language mainly to engineering students in Europe and in the Middle East for more than twenty years. Her work has evolved from teaching ESP in the 1980s to developing students' academic literacy and critical thinking skills. She has written course books for technical English in use in Italy and Finland and presented papers at international conferences.

She has been teaching a wide range of courses, including English Communication I, Strategies for Team-Based Engineering Problem Solving, and Introduction to Psychology.teaching interests. More recently her focus has been on first year students' English communication skills.
