Research administration at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology is headed by Dr. Steve Griffiths, Senior Vice President for Research and Development and Professor of Practice., Dr. Griffiths serves as university’s chief officer in charge of research strategic planning and operational implementation.
The administrative scope of research and development and Khalifa University includes external research partnerships, research grants and contracts, intellectual property research laboratories and research computing. The university’s research institutes and centers are also part of the research and development at Khalifa University.
The Office of Research Services (ORS) is responsible for the pre- and post-award administration of internally and externally funded research programs at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology. It provides the underlying policies, procedures and administrative infrastructure to ensure research enterprises are successful and sustainable. The ORS also coordinates with the Research Ethics Committees, and the relevant IT systems that support the research functions.

The Office of Technology Management and Innovation is responsible for protection, management and commercialization of University research discoveries. It works closely with faculty and researchers in the University to translate their inventions into viable business opportunities and commercial products through formation of startups and/or technology licensing to industry partners. The office supports the research-driven innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems in the University to actively contribute to UAE economic development and diversification.
The Industry Engagement and Research Partnership Department is responsible for establishing collaborative relationships between the Khalifa University of Science and Technology and industry partners locally, regionally and globally. Its aim is to strengthen research productivity and innovation while advancing the sponsored research environment and culture at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology.
The Research Laboratories Department provides an environment for increased alignment of research infrastructure investment to Khalifa University of Science and Technology’s strategic research priorities as well as individual faculty. The department mission is to establish and continually evolve physical research infrastructure and that supports programs to achieve the primary research aims of the University.
The Research Computing Department manages and supports centrally provided research computing services at the Khalifa University of Science and technology. These services include, the High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, specialist training, scientific computing support, and consultancy services for the University’s researchers on the use of centrally provided research computing.
The Khalifa Innovation Center (KIC) works to commercialize deep technology by enabling and supporting the creation of start-up companies. The KIC supplies mentoring, training, funding, space and more. KIC is supported by the Khalifa Fund, Mubadala and Tawazun.
