Dr. Mark Hayman earned his PhD from the University of Warwick, UK, in 2000 and his MA and BA from the University of Birmingham, UK. In addition, he obtained a post-graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Leicester, UK.

Dr. Hayman has previously taught at the University of Cairo, Egypt and the University of Coimbra, Portugal. In 2001, he joined the Petroleum Institute, which became a part of the Khalifa University of Science and Technology in 2017. He has served as Chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences Department for four years. His area of expertise is the history of the British Empire in the Middle East, and in particular British involvement in the Trucial Coast.
